Simon Peel formerly of Jitterbit, IBM and Cast Iron Systems recently discussed the Bollywood lawsuit against the Indian media.

San Francisco, CA / Leaders of the Bollywood film industry are taking action against popular Indian news channels. Simon Peel formerly of Jitterbit, IBM and Cast Iron Systems recently discussed what this means for Bollywood filmmakers as well as the TV news channels that have been allegedly making defamatory remarks against the industry.

Simon Peel formerly of Jitterbit, IBM and Cast Iron Systems explained that the lawsuit was filed on Monday, Oct. 12, 2020. The lawsuit came about when two of India’s most popular news channels took aim at the Bollywood film industry. Simon Peel formerly of Jitterbit, IBM and Cast Iron Systems explained that Bollywood is the term used to describe the Hindi-language film industry in India. The industry is based in Mumbai.

“This lawsuit was brought about following the suspected suicide of the highly respected Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput,” Simon Peel formerly of Jitterbit, IBM and Cast Iron Systems said. “The news channels had apparently been making incredibly derogatory remarks about the entire Bollywood industry, claiming filmmakers and fellow actors were responsible for Rjput’s suicide.”

Simon Peel formerly of Jitterbit, IBM and Cast Iron Systems explained that news channels claimed that Bollywood celebrities are part of a massive drug cartel that led Rajput to take his life. Rajput was found dead at the age of 34 in his apartment in Mumbai on June 4, 2020. Police believe it was a suicide, but the case is still under investigation.

“This lawsuit was brought together by some of the biggest names in Bollywood, including actors Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, and Salman Khan,” Simon Peel formerly of Jitterbit, IBM and Cast Iron Systems said.

The lawsuit has been filed against two of India’s most popular news channels, Times Now and Republic TV. The actors are seeking to halt the defamatory and derogatory reporting about the Bollywood industry by the news channels. Simon Peel formerly of Jitterbit, IBM and Cast Iron Systems explained that this comes during a time when India is facing a major crisis in its television news industry.

“India is home to an unbelievably competitive news environment,” Simon Peel formerly of Jitterbit, IBM and Cast Iron Systems said. “There are more than 850 news channels in the country, but some of these channels are beginning to lose credibility as they indulge in chaotic debates, name-calling, and simply unprofessional reporting.”

Simon Peel formerly of Jitterbit, IBM and Cast Iron Systems concluded that this is what has led Bollywood actors to finally take action. This is just one small step in a giant battle to set India’s news media back on course with responsible, professional news reporting. Officials are still unsure whether or not this case will be settled or taken to court, but it has definitely brought plenty of global attention to the Bollywood film industry as well as the Indian news media.
